If you thought only Nate Robinson could be out of the Knicks’ rotation, well guess again. You can add Eddy Curry to the mix of players that did not play. It’s not because he shot the ball at the wrong hoop and not even because he’d rather watch reruns of “The Nanny” than an episode of the Mike D’Antoni Show. No matter how many pounds he has lost, Curry does not fit the system that Mike D’Antoni is trying to establish. Fans should remember that when Coach Mike D’Antoni was first hired everyone thought that David Lee would not be able to adapt to Mike D’Antoni’s system. Many people felt Lee’s jumpshot was not that good in a system like this. So what did Lee start doing? He started working on his jumpshot. Now he’s one of the key players in the system because he can shoot, cut to the basket, and play the pick and roll game.
With Curry it is a whole different ball game. If Curry does not get the ball in the post it is hard for him to be effective on the offensive end. Either his teammates cause turnovers trying to pass the ball to him or Curry himself causes turnovers trying to score. Curry has been out of the system that requires shooting and cutting to the hole for so long it will take time for him to adjust.
Yes, there have been times that Curry has looked good. Like the Pacers game when Curry showed that he could be the difference maker and a low post threat. The problem that we are dealing with right now is the Knicks are are winning games with an eight man rotation. Not only that, but the team can not waste time trying to get Curry adjusted when winning games is at stake. So unless Eddy Curry develops a 3 point shot like Jonathan Bender, do not expect to see Curry on the court much this season. Follow me on twitter
