Donnie Walsh Wants Chris Mullin As New GM? PDF Print E-mail
Written by BigC

(Big C) -It looks like Chris Mullin could  be the Knicks new general manger in the future. According to Frank Isola of the Daily News, Chris Mullin is the guy Donnie Walsh wants to hire as the new GM. Here is what was reported by Frank Isola:

"OAKLAND - Chris Mullin remains Donnie Walsh's preferred choice to become his top lieutenant - and one day succeed him - although a potential hiring is not imminent and far from a sure thing.

According to a Knicks source, Walsh has identified Mullin, the New York basketball legend, as the person to eventually join the Knicks' front office, most likely as the general manager. The holdup is that the team doesn't have an opening and/or a budget to add another executive.

When asked about Mullin yesterday, Walsh would not comment on the possibility of adding the former St. John's All-America from Brooklyn. Walsh joked that there are rumors that he is "hiring everyone.

"But I love Chris," he added. "Everyone knows that."

Mullin, who has been reluctant to discuss the Knicks, did not return phone calls. A prominent player agent who has negotiated deals with both Walsh and Mullin believes that Mullin eventually will end up in New York, saying, "It makes too much sense. Chris Mullin is New York."-Daily News

I must admit  I am not exactly doing back flips with the thought of getting Chris Mullin as the Knicks gm. After all what exactly did he do with the Warrirors that was so special?  If you ask me it looks like Mullin might have already been helping out the Knicks. Especially if you think about it.  Mullin might be the main reason the Knicks were able to rid of Jamal Crawfords big contract all the way to 2011 in exchange for Al Harrington's contract that expires in 2010.

Chris Mullin is well known for his work on the court as a player. Yet he has never put his stamp as being a good gm. Remember Mullin was the same guy that gave Corey Maggette, Adonal Foyle, and Erick Dampier their big contracts. Not to mention he drafted Ike Diogu  over Danny Granger,  Andrew Bynum, Joey Graham, and even Brandon Bass. Mullin also traded away a future first round pick for Marcus Williams who Mullin waive later on in the season. Even though Mullin has made some bad moves there have been some good moves that he has made.

1. Drafting Monta Ellis, and  Anthony Randolph.
2. Signing C.J. Watson, and Steven Jackson

As long as Donnie Walsh has the final say on what transactions go down, Knick fans shouldn't have to worry about any more Adonal Foyle signings.
