Kelenna Azubuike: The Trade Bonus PDF Print E-mail
Written by BigC
Kelenna Azubike(Big C) There are many things to look forward to in the upcoming season. When the Knicks traded David Lee they got back three talented players from Golden State Warriors. Mike D’Antoni described one of those players, Kelenna Azubuike, as a surprise bonus in the trade agreement.  However I will tell you that Kelenna, when healthy, is a player that has game.

If you are not familiar with Azubuike, the word “explosive” is good word to start with when describing his game.  Azubuike is a very explosive player. He can drive with force and shoot.  He can excel in the a halfcourt set, coming off screens as well as taking his man one-on-one off the dribble.

Catching and shooting the ball and running and gunning is his forte. He has the confidence to drive and jump with the best of them.  Plus he can get steals on the defensive end.

His main obstacle right now is trying to recover from arthroscopic surgery on his right knee. Even though Azubuike did get minutes a year ago he only played 9 games last season for the Warriors. He will also have to work his way back into shape for Mike D’Antoni’s rotation. Azubuike is still recovering from major surgery, but if he can play at 85% of the way he played on the Warriors would be huge boost to the Knicks lineup.

The Knicks need to have a strong shooting guard off the bench. I expect Azbuike and Bill Walker to fight it out for the shooting guard spot off the bench in the backcourt with Toney Douglas. Wilson Chandler at this point is almost a lock for the starting  shooting guard position coming into the season.

The season may have a slow start for Azubike, but I feel he will have  a strong  December and beyond. Azubuike is definitely a big bonus to help the Knicks.
