Cavs trade for Sessions and Bulls Not Sold on T-Mac PDF Print E-mail
Written by BigC

Via ESPN:

Tracy McGrady spoke like he was already a member of the Chicago Bulls when he addressed reporters Monday, using the word "we" as he described the team's prospects for next season.

"I think we can be really good," McGrady said, "I really do."

But McGrady hasn't completely sold the Bulls and might not get the contract offer he wants and expects, according to sources with knowledge of Chicago's thinking.

”One source close to the process told ESPN.com that the prospect of Chicago signing McGrady was downgraded to "unlikely" after the workout and interview, with the Bulls saying they wanted more time to consider other options. Another source confirmed that the post-workout meeting between McGrady and Bulls' decision-makers did not clinch a deal, as McGrady had hoped.

Despite an on-court audition for team officials Monday that one source said raised no significant concerns about his physical condition, McGrady apparently has not convinced the Bulls that he is willing to embrace a secondary role, which is one of two key prerequisites the two-time scoring champ must satisfy to secure a deal from Chicago.

I won't have a problem, but that's not what I'm really shooting for. I think, yeah, if I was the player that I was in a Knicks uniform [at the end of last season], I would have no problem coming off the bench. But I've worked extremely hard and I'm far from being that player. Trust me. It's up to me in training camp to prove I'm a starter." ESPN

I wish T-Mac the best. However, it will be tough for him to convince a team that he can play 82 games. Another problem that McGrady may have is teams not willing to give him the money he wants and a long contract. We will see what happens.

In other news the Cavs have finally gotten rid of Delonte West:

"The Cleveland Cavaliers completed their first post-LeBron James personnel move on Monday night, trading troubled guard Delonte West and point guard Sebastian Telfair to the Minnesota Timberwolves for point guard Ramon Sessions, 7-footer Ryan Hollins and a future second-round pick.

After James dumped the Cavs on national television and fled to Miami to join Dwyane Wade, Chris Bosh and the Heat, owner Dan Gilbert sent off a scathing letter to Cleveland fans vowing to win a title before LeBron does.

The Cavaliers tried to start the roster makeover by signing restricted free agent point guard Kyle Lowry to an offer sheet, but the Houston Rockets matched it. So they settled on Sessions, a quick, pick-and-roll specialist who spent last season backing up rookie Jonny Flynn on the woeful Wolves, as their new point guard.

Sessions averaged 8.2 points on 45.6 percent shooting with 3.1 assists in a career-low 21.1 minutes per game last season. He signed a four-year, $16 million deal to join the Wolves before last season. The native of South Carolina is close friends with Cavs guard Mo Williams from their days together with the Milwaukee Bucks and should get much more playing time in Cleveland this year.

This was a good move by the Cavs but it might be too late. Delonte West should have been traded as soon as the Cavs had their first opportunity to trade him. As far as Ramond Session, he is a decent point guard. It was only a year ago that Knicks fans wanted him on the Knicks.

At this point I am really pleased that the Knicks waited. Felton is a better player. Not to mention last off-season Session was looking for a longer contract from the Knicks. It just goes to show you sometimes it is better to wait.

For the Wolves this was good move to dump Sessions salary. Session has three more years on his contract. Delonte West most likely will be waived by the Wolves. It will be interesting to see where Delonte plays next season. I'm sure one of the teams that are looking to go deep in the playoffs will look to pick him up.
