Donnie Walsh: A Man With A Plan PDF Print E-mail
Written by BigC

Donnie Walsh(Big C) Knicks fans, now is not the time to be upset with Donnie Walsh or to give up on the Knicks.   In two years Donnie Walsh has taken out the trash and rebuilt this team and turned it into a solid product. Working those long days and nights to build a team and staying patient has paid off.  Even when he had surgery and was forced to be in a wheelchair, Donnie still got out to recruit free agents. If that’s not dedication I don’t know what is.

Many of the trades, drafting players, and free agent signings, were all steps to improve  this Knicks team. The end result will hopefully be  a solid product on the floor.  In the 2008 draft the Knicks drafted Danilo Gallinari and many fans were pissed. The end result in the 2009-2010 season  Danilo Gallinari showed and proved why he was drafted number 6 with his skills.

Danilo Gallinari has also turned boo’s into cheers.  Still there were some fans that still wished the Knicks might have drafted Anthony Randolph (I was one of  those people). So in the summer 2010 Donnie Walsh’s message to everyone who complained about not getting Randolph is, “I got him... so now what do you have to say?”

Knicks fans have also been puzzled as to why the Knicks have not drafted a point guard or have not traded for a good point guard. So what does Donnie Walsh do? He gets the best point in free agency, Raymond Felton aka "The Reason". Raymond Felton could have signed somewhere else but picked to wear orange and blue.

So with all the talk about Donnie Walsh sleeping instead of building a team, well apparently he is very alert and putting together a squad to be respected. No, the Knicks do not have Brandon Jennings, but they do have Raymond Felton. And we have yet to see how he plays with a star like Amar’e Stoudemire.

Now you have fans still bitter that he Knicks did not get Lebron. My response is get over it. We can not change anything about a plan that was set in stone by Lebron along time ago. That being said, Donnie Walsh was able to sign Amar’e Stoudemire who was the best available talent after Wade and James.

The Knicks may not have landed two superstars, but they have landed one superstar in Amar’e Stoudemire. Like it or not, no one can deny that Amar’e is one of the best players in the league. He is also a huge upgrade over David Lee. If you ask any player in the league who would they rather play with Lee or Stoudemire they would scream Amar’e and probably flip you a dirty look.

The next big complaint was drafting Landry Fields on draft night. Lo and behold, Landry Fields turned out to be one the best players in draft according to many people that watched summer league ball. Landry might even be a solid player in Mike D’Antoni’s bench this year. He already looks NBA ready.

So at the end of the day Donnie Walsh is proving people wrong day by day. Now we just have to see the Knicks and Coach Mike D’Antoni  do their part and start winning. Walsh has done his part by sticking to his guns and planning properly. If this summer is a preview of what’s to come next off-season and beyond then sign me up.

Walsh’s thought process has to be, “good planning will lead to success.” If you are not  going to plan right don’t bother planning at all. Knicks fans buckle up and enjoy the ride.
