Walt Fraziers Speaks On Rudy for Chandler Rumor: "I would not like that move" PDF Print E-mail
Written by BigC

Walt Frazier(Big C) Rumors, rumors, rumors. By now you’ve probably heard the rumors involving trading Wilson Chandler for Rudy Fernandez. Like I have said before, “I don’t buy it.” I have never believed this rumor.

The other day I decided to reach out to one of Chandler’s biggest supporters, Knicks legend Walt Frazier, to find out how he felt about the recent Rudy Fernandez Wilson Chandler trade rumors.

When I asked  Walt Frazier how he would feel if Wilson Chandler got traded for Rudy Fernandez he had this to say:

“I would not like that move. I would not like that move if they (the Knicks)  made that trade. Rudy Fernandez is a one dimensional player.  Rudy Fernandez is just a shooter.” Like I mentioned before, Wilson Chandler can do a lot of things. Chandler is a versatile player.   He can block shots, he can rebound, he can shoot the jumper (mid-range), he’s a scorer.  Chandler also plays good defense and he is only going to get better.

I think Chandler will be a 20 point scorer. Once he believes that he ‘s among the elite players he will be a star. Believing is half the challenge. I think this will be a breakout year for Chandler."- Walt Frazier

At this point Chandler is a player that is a solid piece to have on any team. In the past the Knicks had one dimensional players, where their being on the court meant some aspect of the game was compromised. If  a player was able to score they could not play defense. If a player played defense they were horrible on the offensive end of the court.

Chandler is a player that gets it done on both ends of the court. In the past fans have gotten frustrated with players who only played good on offense like David Lee and Jamal Crawford. Now we have a player like Chandler that is able to do both at a cheap price.  Who is to say Chandler can’t play the shooting guard position when he already played the shooting role well last season.  At 6’8” it will be a problem for opposing teams.

The bottom line is, any player on the Knicks, except Amar’e Stoudemire, can get traded at this point. If the Knicks are going to trade Chandler it will be for a Carmelo Anthony, Chris Paul, or other star player. I do not feel Donnie Walsh would waste the trade value in Wilson Chandler to get Rudy Fernandez, who’s image is getting worse day by day.

Overall, I feel Chandler is an excellent player to have on the Knicks because he gets it done on both ends of the court. This summer Chandler has devoted his time to working on his handle and his 3 point shot. Now Wilson just needs to show his true talent this season.

At the end of the day, it’s like Frazier said, “Chandler will only get better.” Why make a trade before Chandler has reached his full potential.
