(Big C) So this is what it has come down too. Eddy Curry or Mozgov. At one point Eddy Curry looked like he could be the Knicks center of the future. Now it looks like the Knicks are just waiting to trade him or waiting for his contract to expire.

If a player is constantly getting injured or not putting in the necessary conditioning to be successful the league and the fans will forget about you. For Eddy Curry it’s about changing his image and still remaining a player in this league.  Eddy Curry has gone from a player who earned the name “Baby Shaq” to a player most fans have forgotten about.

If Eddy Curry can not do it this year then his career will be an after thought like many players that had talent but never lived up to their potential... the "could’ve, should’ve" players.

 
While Eddy Curry is inching closer to being a distant memory, Timofey Mozgov is the new buzz in Knicks Town. The 7’1” center from Russia is getting more attention than a nude bench for elderly swingers. Timofey Mozgov showed that he can play against real NBA competition. Besides that, in the World FIBA Championship Mozgov put up some good baskets and excelled at the pick and roll game.

Judging, from the tournament it looked like Mozgov is the perfect fit for Mike D’Antoni’s system. Mike D’Antoni is a coach that does not care much for a center that can postup. He instead needs a center that either shoot from the outside or play the pick and roll game.  Mozgov's athletic ability and his pick and roll game are the perfect fit for the Knicks team.

Now as we approach the start of the season Mike D’Antoni will have to choose who will make the rotation and who will be out. That being said, I would be shocked if Eddy had another poor season.  The fact that the Knicks went out and got two other players in the center position, Turiaf and Mozgov, should be enough motivation for Curry to take this year seriously.

 
As for Timofey Mozgov, he's the new kid on the block. We saw him block shots and  play pick and roll ball. However, he must improve his rebounding and his timing on blocking shots.  In the NBA there are a different set of rules than what Mozgov is use to. Many of his block shots would be goal tending calls or fouls.  The goods news for Mozgov's is the pick & roll and the run & gun game is universal.

 
The obstacle for both players will be  head coach Mike D’Antoni. Even if Curry is in shape there still is a chance that Mike D'Antoni will not play him. We all know Mike D’Antoni has a reputation for not caring for postup players.  And this is exactly what Curry is.

 
 
In  Timofey Mozgov's case  there will be questions if he will get playing time because he is a rookie. Last season rookies Toney Douglas and Jordan Hill were glued to the bench by Mike D'Antoni. So you have to wonder what will happen to Mozgov.
 
At the end of the day it's either Eddy Curry or Timofey Mozgov that will get the backup minutes in the rotation.
