The Knicks: Winning and the 8-Man Rotation PDF Print E-mail
Written by BigC

(Big C) The Knicks are on a roll and are currently  a solid team in the East. So far the Knicks are playing better basketball and are benefiting from a shorter rotation. Earlier in training camp and preseason Mike D’Antoni said that he might play 11 players. However, like I pointed out before, a large rotation is not always feasible. The more players in a rotation can pose as an obstacle to building chemistry. Especially when you are talking about a young group of players.

In the recent games Mike D’Antoni has only used an eight man rotation. That leaves Timofey Mozgov, Bill Walker, Roger Mason Jr., and Anthony Randolph out of the rotation. Many people are saying that Mike D’Antoni needs to expand his rotation because the starting lineup will get worn out during the second half of the season.

However, I have to disagree with opening up the rotation. The Knicks right now have a tight rotation where the chemistry is working in their favor. The players know how many minutes they are expected to play and they know their roles whenever they step onto the court.

At this point if it aint broke, why fix it? With the Knicks having a tough schedule coming up they will need to win as many games as possible. D'Antoni adding someone new to the rotation could lead to poor decision making, turnovers, or even disrupt the chemistry that the team is has already built up with the current rotation. Not to mention most of the players who are out of the rotation need real playing time to be productive. 5-7 minutes will not be helpful to them or the team.

Now if the Knicks happen to lose a few games then I have no problem with opening up the rotation. Right now the Knicks have a young team and I feel they can handle large minutes and a short rotation.

Overall, a shortened rotation is a positive, not a negative for the Knicks.
