Anthony Randolph: It's Not Just About Skills, It's About Attitude PDF Print E-mail
Written by BigC

Big C) After last night’s game and reviewing the season it is clear that the days are numbered for Anthony Randolph. Whether he gets traded before the deadline or on draft night it does not look like Mike D’Antoni has any plans on using the 6’10 forward. Which has made many people wonder,  "How bad can Randolph be to never get playing time?"

Last night the Knicks did not have Amar’e Stoudemire and Mozgov got in foul trouble yet Randolph did not even get 5 minutes on the court. So does that mean that Randolph does not have game? Not at all. More than likely it means Randolph has found himself in a place where  he is not needed in Mike D’Antoni’s rotation. Which is surprising considering the athletic ability of Anthony Randolph.

Before the season started Anthony Randolph was viewed as a player that would be part of the Knicks future, almost un-tradable. Now we are looking at him like a player who could be traded for a draft pick. At age 21 some players learn faster than others how to adjust to the NBA. For Randolph it is more than just adjusting to the NBA game. After all we have seen players given the chance to grow. Yet Randolph seems not have gotten a fair shot for growth.  So what happened?

It’s looks like Anthony Randolph lost his spot in the Knicks rotation because of his attitude rather than poor play on the court. We know that he does play good at practice. However some players, who do not get playing time, tend to pout or show displeasure about their situation. On the Knicks there  have been many players that have not gotten playing time but have been very supportive of their teammates regardless of their rotation situation.

We have seen Bill Walker gone from not playing to a player that gets minutes. And it’s not just because of his shot. It’s about supporting your teammates, acting like you are part of the team, and waiting until it is your opportunity to play. Bad attitudes will never go far with a coach like Mike D’Antoni.

Right now it looks like trade or no trade, Randolph is not even an after thought to Coach Mike D’Antoni. So the best bet for Randolph is to be supportive until he is traded. Right now Randolph is stranded on an island all by himself.

Overall, Randolph is still young and talented so if he remains a Knick to the end of  the season or is traded at the deadline he has to change his attitude. Knicks or no Knicks, a good attitude can get people far in life. Let's see if he can make the adjustment.
