Bill Walker: Making His Case To Be In the Rotation For the Playoffs PDF Print E-mail
Written by BigC
(Big C) With the season coming to an end very soon, Head Coach Mike D’Antoni will be looking to shorten his rotation. Currently Mike D’Antoni has had games where he has  played 11 players. That means 5 starters and 6 bench players. However, going into the playoffs Mike D’Antoni will probably only go with 7-9 players. One of those players on the bench that has made a strong argument to be in rotation is Knicks shooting guard Bill Walker.

People may remember Walker with his solid play last year towards the end of the season. Last season Walker was known for his ability to finish strong  at the rim. Besides Walker dunking the ball and finishing strong on the break, last season he showed glimpse of his outside shooting from 3 point range.

The glimpse of what fans saw of Walker’s shooting last season cannot compare to Walker’s lethal shooting touch this season.  Even though Walker had a higher 3 point shooting percentage last season he has more 3 point attempts this season and they have come at the right times.

In 2011 Walker is shooting more 3 points and becoming one of the main sparks scoring off the bench outside of Toney Douglas. Walker is becoming a good contributor when the Knicks are looking for a scoring punch while the starting lineup is not on the court. He does not score 20 points because it is not necessary on a team that has other scorers. However, Walker’s ability to make timely hoops and hit the must needed shot is what is getting him noticed by fans and, more importantly, Coach Mike D’Anthoni.

Walker was in and out of the rotation the beginning and middle of the season. Some games he would shoot good but his lack of effort on defense would cause him to benched. In other games his shot was not falling and he would be out of the rotation for weeks.  Now we are seeing Walker hit big shots or make plays like a big dunk to energize his teammates and the crowd.

Even though Walker still has work to do on the defensive end of the court he is a prime example of a player that makes the best out of opportunities. Many players would pout, and complain about being in and out of the rotation. Not Walker. He has been supportive of teammates and let his game do the talking.

I believe Walker's sportsmanship is the reason he is getting playing time right now.  Who knows? He just might be the player the Knicks turn to off the bench during the playoffs.
