(Big C) While many people feel that a lockout might be one of the worst things that could happen in NBA right now there are some positives. We all know that the Knicks finally made it to the playoffs last season. However, the Knicks also had key players that were banged up from the injury bug. Amar’e Stoudemire, Carmelo Anthony, Chauncey Billups, and Toney Douglas were not 100% in the playoffs. This was one of the reasons why the Knicks were defeated in 4 games by the Celtics. Besides not being 100% during the playoffs 2 of the 4 players have had some surgery. Not a good sign.
We all know the quickest road to recovery for someone who has had surgery is to get rest. A lockout is exactly when players have more than enough time to rest their bodies. The smart move this off-season for banged up players would also be to let their bodies heal and to work on their games.
The last time the NBA had a lockout was the 1999 season. When the lockout was over the Knicks made it to the NBA Championship. So a lockout this time around might not be so bad. Another positive outcome of the last NBA lockout was the shortened season. The shorter season would give Amar’e Stoudemire, Chauncey Billups, and Carmelo Anthony more recovery time and more time to work on their games.
So is a lockout a bad thing? It could be. However it could also be exactly what the doctor ordered when 3 of the top Knicks players have had major health issues in the playoffs.
