It looks like Duhon will be heading to the bench next season. There is no surprise here. Especially with the poor play of Chris Duhon in recent months. Duhon has been a no show and doing a disappearing act that would impress Space Ghost himself. Here is what was written by Frank Isola of the New York Daily News: As Donnie Walsh and Mike D'Antoni evaluate 2008-09 and begin building next season's team, Duhon's future will be one of the main topics. According to a source, the Knicks will try to upgrade at the position with the idea of making Duhon the backup, which appears to be a more suitable role for him. A trade is not out of the question since Duhon is entering the final year of his contract. However, Duhon has a strong supporter in D'Antoni, who, on the advice of Duke coach Mike Krzyzewski, lobbied Walsh to sign the point guard last July. The move paved the way for the Knicks to begin divorce proceedings with Marbury, the incumbent starter who never played a minute this season before negotiating a buyout two months ago. D'Antoni had enough confidence in Duhon that he anointed him the starting point guard before training camp began and demoted the more accomplished Marbury. For a time, the controversial decision appeared to be the proper move. In the Knicks' first 46 games, Duhon averaged 12.7 points, eight assists and 2.85 turnovers. Plus, the Knicks were in the thick of the playoff hunt, going 21-25 through January. But as Duhon has fallen off, so too have the Knicks. Since Feb.1, Duhon has averaged 10.1 points, 6.1 assists and 2.87 turnovers while the Knicks have gone 10-24 and managed to go from playoff contender to irrelevant. I think the Knicks first priority this offseason is to find a starting point guard. Whether if it's a rookie in the draft or a free agent. The bottom line is Duhon is not cutting it. Chris Duhon has been a disaster in recent months which is bad for a player that started off as a player that looked like he would be the Knicks starting point gaurd for the next two years. In recent months Duhon has been a turnover machine in the 4th quarter and has not be running the offensive smoothly. At times it looks like he was just going through the motions on the court or looking like a kid that is forced to eat his vegetables by his mother. People questioned why Duhon was out of the Bulls rotation before he left but it looks like he is not committed to be a starter in this league. Before Chris Duhon joined the Knicks he was known to be a party animal that would party all night. It looks like he might have a little party in him in New York. Some fans believe that Chris Duhon's poor play is due too many minutes and it is catching up with him. I don't buy it. Especially when Stephon Marbury and Jamal Crawford, both of whom are older, also logged heavy minutes in this league. As a matter of fact Jamal Crawford average 39.9 minutes last season and Jamal had to play big minutes and score. So why should Duhon be given an excuse? Duhon is a young player not a player that is on his last legs. Duhon was given the role to be the team leader and it looks like he does not want it. It will be interesting to see what the Knicks do in the offseason to get a starting point guard for this squad or will they be forced to keep Duhon as their starter until 2010.
