He's back. Isiah Thomas that is. And I am not talking about working at the front office with the Knicks or any other NBA team. There were rumors earlier this month that Isiah was waiting on getting a job from the L.A. Clippers. I guess Isiah is not going to wait around for that one. According to the New York Post Isiah has been offered a chance to coach Florida International University. Here is what was said in the New York Post: Isiah Thomas is on the verge of leaving his untitled position with the Knicks and accepting an offer to coach Miami-based Florida International University, according to sources. The former Knick president and coach is mulling the offer to take over FIU's basketball program. Knick president Donnie Walsh confirmed last night Thomas is involved in talks with FIU. An announcement could come as early as today, with a press conference in Miami tomorrow. Thomas would replace Sergio Rouco, who was ousted after five consecutive losing seasons. Thomas has been doing college scouting for Walsh, but is not part of the scouting group that meets periodically with the Knick president. I have to say I did not think Isiah would be able to get a job this fast especially with the way he left the Knicks organization. That being said, this is a downward movement by Isiah Thomas career wise. Think about it, Isiah was the general manger of one of the most famous NBA teams in basketball history and now he is just a college coach. We are not even talking about Isiah coaching a college team that has been winning in the last few years. We are talking about Florida International University. There is nothing wrong with being a college coach, there is something wrong with the image and reputation of Isiah Thomas. For Isiah to become a college coach is like being the owner of Costco to becoming the guy that packs bags at isle 2 at Pathmark. Isiah Thomas must have known the writing was on the wall that no team in the NBA will hire him right away. Starting at the college level can also be good for Isiah. 1. He can rebuild his image that has be tarnish and turn it back into a positive outlook on who is Isiah Thomas. 2. He can turn a losing university into something that is competitive in the college ranks. 3. He can reach out to the young players that he will be coaching by being a positive role model in their lives. 4. He can use coaching at FIU as a stepping stone to get back into the NBA. Tags:
