This season Toney Douglas is entering his third year in league. More importantly he has been given the keys to drive the Knicks to become one of the elite teams in the league.
The big test for Douglas in today’s game was to go up against Rajon Rondo. Rondo is the actual player that shattered Toney Douglas’ reputation. Rondo made everyone question whether or not Douglas was capable of being a starter in the league. Today presented the kind of match up that players lose sleep over trying to figure out how to play against their opponent.
In today’s game Toney Douglas showed that he is very capable of stepping up and taking on the challenge by playing aggressive against Rondo. Douglas started the game shooting and playing defense. Toney Douglas showed his full game by driving to the hole, using his floater, and hitting the big three when the Knicks needed a basket.
No Douglas did not drop 37 points like Carmelo Anthony but he did have a nice 19 points, 3 steals, and 4 assists. At the end of the day Douglas is not perfect at running the point but he is a player that can help the Knicks win games playing the starting point guard role.
Douglas is still learning the point guard role. He is going to have his ups and downs but he could potentially be one of the keys to a good season. It’s only one game but I do like what I see.
Overall, if Douglas plays every game as effectively as this one then it will be hard for anyone to take the starting role from him. Follow me on Twitter Twitter.com/FromtheBaseline

(Big C) The Knicks just won the their first game of the season. Not only was it a test for the Knicks to see if they can compete against one of the league’s best but it was also was a test for the Knicks new starting point guard Toney Douglas. Over and over again fans and critics have wondered what the Knicks will do because they don’t have a point guard. When Chauncey Billups got injured last season everyone seemed only to remember how poorly Douglas played against Rajon Rondo. People forget that Douglas was banged up for most of the season last year.
