It might have been a blessing in disguise that Cuttino Mobley was traded to the Knicks. If you have not heard the news Cuttino Mobley has retired because of having heart issues. A few weeks ago Mobley and teammate Tim Thomas were traded to the Knicks for Zach Randolph. The trade sounded good for the most part except for Cuttino Mobley who did not pass his physical, which stopped him from playing as a Knick. Most people thought how could this be possible since Mobley has played all these years with no problem. The difference is the Knicks were not going to take a risk with a player with a bad heart playing on the court. With the Knicks doctors identifying Mobley’s heart condition and the seriousness of it this prevented Mobley playing with a condition that may cause death. Basketball is one thing, but losing your life just to play a sport is an entirely different story. If Mobley was not traded to the Knicks who knows how this chapter would have ended. Many of us remember what happened to Hank Gathers who lost his life on the court. Because the Knicks and Mobley are complying with the medical advice he was given Mobley is able to retire in good spirits and spend time with his wife and children. Cuttino Mobley had a long career in the NBA for 11 years. Most players cannot even say that. And Mobley retires averaging 16 points and 2.7 assist per game and that is something to be proud of. Happy trails to Mobley, who I enjoyed watching on the Rockets for many years.
