It looks like the Knicks are looking for a point guard to run their team next season and that could very well be future hall-of-famer Jason Kidd. According to the New York Daily News Jason Kidd will have a sit down with the Knicks on Wednesday. Here is what was reported by the Daily News: "Jason Kidd plans to meet with Knicks officials Wednesday morning, opening day of the free agent recruiting period. A league source told the Daily News Monday night that Kidd is scheduled to sit down with Knicks president Donnie Walsh and head coach Mike D'Antoni early Wednesday. Kidd said in January that he would strongly consider signing with the Knicks. Kidd, who helped the Nets reach back-to-back NBA Finals before being traded to Dallas two years ago, is giving the Mavericks the first chance to re-sign him. The future Hall of Fame point guard will speak with Dallas officials before he talks to the Knicks. It is believed that Kidd also will talk to the Portland Trail Blazers. The Knicks could sign Kidd to the mid-level exception or try to negotiate a sign-and-trade with Dallas. Since the Mavs traded Devin Harris two seasons ago for Kidd, Dallas figures to make a strong push to re-sign Kidd or at least get compensation for having mortgaged its future." Read Full Article Thanks but no thanks. Jason Kidd is washed up. At this point I can not see how Jason Kidd could help the Knicks in this rebuilding process. Kidd in the last couple of years has not looked good. In Dallas he did nothing to help Dirk and J. Howard move to the next level. So there is no way he can be helpful to a Knicks team that lacks another superstar. Even for the MLE for 3 years I would not sign Kidd. Kidd right now has really no offensive moves except being able to create on the break. In the halfcourt game he is useless he is surrounded by other superstars. We all know the Knicks do not have any other superstars. Remember there is no Richard Jefferson, Vince Carter, K-Mart, Dirk, or a Josh Howard on this team. Kidd is better suited on a veteran team looking to make a strong playoff run. Even with that I am not sure he can be helpful. We already know Kidd is not a good shooter and to make things worse he has lost a step trying to run an offense. I see no purpose for getting Kidd in New York. Why sign him if there still will be no guarantees that Knicks will make the playoffs? Even if the Knicks make it to the playoffs what's next? The Knicks will be stuck with Kidd for years to come when he is over the hill. The only direction Donnie Walsh should be going is trying to sign or trade for a young star in this league. Not a washed up veteran looking for a payday. If the dream is to have a star on this team to bring in Lebron, Kidd is not the answer. After all if Lebron was thrilled with the thoughts having Jason Kidd on this team he would have demand that the Cavs go after Kidd. If you want Lebron here the Knicks should find a way to get Chris Bosh or Amare. At the end of the day I feel Kidd is just looking for a payday and is using the New York media to increase his stock in the free agent market. Hopefully the Knicks do not bite the bullet.
