Knicks Need to Get the Point by BigC PDF Print E-mail
Written by BigC

As you know the NBA draft is right around the corner. Many Knicks fans are disappointed that the Knicks do not have a top 3 pick. That means there is probably no chance of the the Knicks being able to draft Derrick Rose, OJ Mayo or Bealsey. If you had to think of a position that the Knicks need right now you would have to say a point guard. With looking at the achievement of Chris Paul and Deron Williams this pervious NBA season it is clear that the Knicks must get a point guard and not a small forward or a powerforward. Besides Marbury the Knicks do not have a natural point gaurd to lead this Knick team in the future. Nate Robinson is talented but is more of a shooting guard and that is the same case with Jamal Crawford. Even Marbury who plays point is not known for setting players up where they need the ball or pushing the ball at a high pace. Marbury has one year left on his contract and therefore the Knicks needs someone to be a floor general on the court. So if you are the Knicks you have to go with the best guard available.

The best option I feel at the 6th pick is Russell Westbrook who is a force to be reckoned with. Westbrook is a player that can run the break well in Mike D'Antoni's system. Having a point that running might be one of the most important assets for the Knicks in this up incoming season. Not only can this kid run and handle the ball well but he can play defense. Westbrook can guard the best point and shooting guard which is necessary in today's NBA. Westbrook showed his defense this year against some of the best in NCAA . If you don't believe me just ask OJ Mayo. Not only can Westbrook play good one-on-one defense but he plays the passing lanes well. Should I say Allen Iverson like in the passing lanes? Did I mention the Westbrook is as athletic as Baron Davis and Wade? If Westbrook becomes a Knick they will be adding one of the best first step point guards in this year's draft with high energy to give Nate Robinson a run for his money. At the end of the day I would not mind the Knicks picking up Westbrook who has room to grow in Coach D'Antoni's system.
