Stop Shooting: Drive By Big C PDF Print E-mail
Written by BigC

The Knicks are coming off their first lost of the season and things look like they could get worse. Just when fans were ready to start throwing a party, reality sets in. This is the same team. If Coach Mike D’Antoni wants to have a competitive team this season he has to think of different offensive schemes. During the season game verses the Sixers the Knicks not only got outscored but they did not stick to the game plan. Mike D’Antoni has to remind these players that not just shooting three point shots is a way to win games.

Having a run and shoot offense only works if the players are hitting their shots. If the shots are not falling it is crucial that players start driving to the hole and cutting to the basket.  What I saw the other night was bad jumpshot to forced three point attempts.  Not once did I get the impression that the Knicks players thought about driving to the hole. Driving to the hole does two things. 1. It is another way to score and 2.Can put opponents in foul trouble. It looks like Mike D’Antoni’s philosophy will live and die by the three point shot. If that is the case then this will be a long season.

In order for the Knicks to be successful the Knicks have to learn not just run and gun or shoot the three point shot but they have to be able to mix it up.  The Knicks should also try the halfcourt game when the shots are not falling. The Knicks can go with Curry or Randolph in the low box which will lead to open shots for the shooters.   Curry and Zach can demand a double team which will led to open shots for other players. There is nothing wrong with going halfcourt when the run and gun style of play is not working. The question is will Mike D’Antoni realize this before the season is over.
