Baseline Breakdown: Danilo Gallinari's Offense PDF Print E-mail
Written by BigC
Danilo Gallinari (Big C)--He has a child like face but the skills of an assassin. His name is Danilo Gallinari. Or should I say the "Rooster." About a month ago people were starting to doubt this uprising player. He was getting labeled as just a shooter. However, Danilo Gallinari is now bringing his A game to a new level. Not only is he shooting the lights out but he is showing his full arsenal of moves. From shooting to driving to the hole. Danilo is putting in work. Not to mention he has been aggressive on the court showing that he will not back down from anyone. Just ask Carmelo Anthony. In his recent games there are areas that have made him a tough player to contain. The main aspects of Danilo Gallinari's game that have improved are:

1. His shooting

2. His ability to cut to the basket instead of staying stagnant in one place.

3. His ability to postup smaller defenders

4.Taking his man off the dribble when they play him too close.

Cutting to the Basket

Danil Gallinari Cutting

In this first clip you will notice Gallinari faking out his man and cutting to the hole. This is something that could not be said when Danilo was going through his shooting slump a month ago. Now he is constantly moving around and not standing still. In this clip the defender is expecting Danilo to run to the perimeter for a 3 point shot. Instead Gallo runs in the opposite direction for the easy dunk.

Driving to the Basket

Danilo Gallinari drives

In this clip the defender is again worried about Danilo Gallinari's outside shooting. So the only natural thing is to play Danilo Gallinari up close, hoping that will slow Danilo down. The problem is Danilo is in a triple threat position. The triple threat position allows Gallo to either shoot, pass, or drive strong to the hole. Danilo Gallinari picks the right option and drives hard to the hole.

Danilo's shot opens up opportunities for his teammates

In this clip you will see Gallo's man reacting to Gallinari hitting his shot. Because of Gallinari's previous shot, Gallo's man does not want to leave him open. Therefore that allows Toney Douglas to get an easy layup without the help defender (Gallo's Man) getting involved.

Posting up
If Danilo is ever to expand his game he has to post up more. Guess what? That's what Danilo Ganillnari has been doing and he's been very effective. He is now scoring on shorter defenders or getting doubled in the post.
Right now Danilo is using his height and shooting skills to his full advantage. Next stop hopefully is him improving his midrange game.
