"CHARLOTTE (NBA.com exclusive) --  The Charlotte Bobcats struggled for the second straight game, but Larry Brown was pleased with his team's character and effort Friday night, especially with the play of his back court.

Charlotte's 92-59 blowout loss to Boston on Wednesday night coupled with giving away an 18-point fourth-quarter lead would have been a tough way to start the season however the Bobcats rallied late to salvage a 102-100 double-overtime victory against the New York Knicks.

"It would have been a long plane ride (if we had lost)," Brown said, "but if you're not proud of the way these guys played and their effort then you'd be doing the wrong thing."

With the Bobcats rotation still in flux, with injuries sidelining guards Raja Bell and Flip Murray, and the team working through the fact that Boris Diaw and Tyson Chandler have yet to get into game shape as they recover from off-season injuries, they relied heavily on guards Raymond Felton and D.J. Augustin.

"It was a big win for us," Augustin, who sealed the win with a pair of free throws, said. "Coming off that Boston loss we were really down on ourselves. We lost pretty bad to a great team, but we built off of that. We got better and came out tonight and fought hard."

Brown was complementary of both of his young point guards, but especially of Felton and his leadership.

"(Raymond) competes and tries," Brown said. "He's got a will to win that's just incredible. He's not even close to where he's going to be. He's just starting to figure things out. It's going to happen for him."

Felton netted a game-best 22 points and even inserted himself back in the lineup in the waning seconds after being forced to the sidelines with a cramp in his left calf.

"We needed that win at home," Felton said. "We needed that win for ourselves. We were able to keep playing and keep our poise."

Stephen Graham, who got his second start in place of Bell, saw that leadership.

"I take my hat off to Ray and those guys because they played the whole time and kept making plays down the stretch. We have to use this as a momentum builder."

As much as the Bobcats struggled, the Knicks had just as many problems.

New York scored just 13 points in the first quarter and put up 36 threes for the game after taking 39 in the team's opening loss at Miami.

"We didn't come out when we should have come out and we found ourselves in the hole," Mike D'Antoni said. "I can see how we need to play and I know what I need to do to fix it. We are still too tentative on our shots."-NBA.com Read More
